Oscars 2011 - Best Dressed

Halle Berry in Marchesa....flawless hair and make-up, beautiful jewels and a stunning Red Carpet-worthy gown....

Hailee Steinfeld.....beautiful in a Marchesa gown which she helped design

Helen Mirren looking absolutely fantastic in Vivienne Westwood - such a great colour for her and as always, her hair and make-up are the right tones to give her a totally radiant look

Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein

Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott (loved the colour and the jewels - altho not necessarily together!)

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy....not everyone's choice but I thought she carried it off perfectly

Hilary Swank in Gucci Premiere

Michelle Williams in Chanel Haute Couture....I'm not usually a fan of very pale gowns and Michelle Williams can often be hit and miss for me....but she looked beautiful in this

Florence Welch in vintage Valentino

Camila Alves in Kaufman Franco

I have to say that there wasn't one stand-out dress for me this year at the Oscars....lots that I liked but not many that I loved AND ticked all the boxes...many people got the right colour but wrong dress - or wrong shoes....some dresses just weren't "enough"....and some, as always, were way too much!
And if you need a man behind you to carry your dress, then I'm not sure it's the right choice.
It's the Oscars, you can't be glamorous enough, in my opinion.

Having spent today browsing many images and catching up on the Red Carpet footage, I have concluded that the above selection are my absolute favourites.

And finally.....well done Colin Firth and "The King's Speech", a wonderful movie....and Christian Bale and Melissa Leo who were just fantastic in "The Fighter".

  2. Gorgeous, gorgeous gowns this year. At first, I really disliked Cate Blanchett's dress, but the more I see it, I find it very pretty. And she carries it off well.

  3. we chose some of the same dresses...though i have to say, the calvin klein gwyneth wore absolutely knocked me down...brilliant, gorgeous, unlike anything anyone else wore...it was sick.

  5. I agree with all the above and think Hallie was amazing but really loved Mila Kunis's dress as well, the color, the softness in addition to the others. I did not like Cates at all and found the front circle part to be a distraction from the beautiful beadwork;..and thats a shame becuase she has never looked better, and the color suited her beautifully. Well thats why there is chocolate and vanilla right..because we all see things differently! But I would agree that Hallie is in my top two with Milas dress and that Halie looked like a little Hollywood princess!

  6. Simone, I love your choices...always can count on you having the best picks and the best things to say! I love Halle Berry & Camila's dresses...so gorgeous! I also agree...the more glam the better! Why not go for it. :) Welcome back and hope you are settling in nicely...glad to hear Italy treated you well. ;)

  7. As always we are in agreement on lots of these (as you'll see shortly when my Oscar post goes up!) I LOVED Camilla Alves in the Kaufman Franco dress... so beautiful! I know what you mean about clear stand out winners.. there needed to be a little more drama in some cases I think. xxx

  9. You know I was waiting for this!! I agree with all your pics except for Cate ~ the dress was different and she did carry it well but you know I am not a fashionista by any means!! I also loved Anne Hathaway's dress that she wore on the red carpet and of course it was red! Great picks Simone and I thought of you when Colin gave his acceptance speech. xo

  10. Mr Firth is such a class act. It was nice to see so many gentlemen in classic tuxes and not looking like they decided to go at the last second.

  12. Did you get a chance to check out Mandy Moore's choice of a silver Monique Lhuillier dress for her red carpet walk (not what she wore for her on-stage performance) - it was exquisite. My take home message this Oscars was ARMS!!! All those girls were ripped, not a single bingo wing amongst the lot of them. I reckon there's a Hollywood Trainer with a business card that reads 'Arms 'R Us.' who's booked out for the next 20 years! Lovely post APU Simone.

  13. Liked Sandra Bullock's dress' color. Not so much the cut, but the color was beautiful! :) And although I didn't have a favorite dress of the evening, I have to admit that I liked Reese Witherspoon's dress a lot. Very classy.

  15. Michelle Willimas took my breath away! She looks like a modern day Audrey Hepburn!

Can I say I am thrilled see smile lines on Cate Blanchet?! Yay for non-botoxed faces.

  16. I agree with your selections here Simone. The one dress that did take my breath away was when Helen Mirren walked out on to the stage to present an award....my 14yr old daughter also said "Oh wow...she looks AMAZING".

Undecided about Cate Blanchett, but she's so winning that it's hard to dislike anything about her:) Meredy xo.

  19. Colin Firth is just so charming.

I loved Mila's dress so much. A lot of bloggers didn't agree with me. I loved it because I sooo would have worn it.

    Helen Mirren always looks fabulous.
