Phew, I think - at last - I have found my groove again.
7 weeks of school holidays - 3 weeks of it spent pretty much on a beach - meant my children returning to school last Wednesday took some getting used to.....
setting the alarm clock, wet weather, a lot of form-filling, PE kits, catching up with friends and just generally organising my home/life was pretty overwhelming!
Maybe the longer you go away for, the longer it takes you to settle back into real-life, I wonder....
I like September in the same way that I like Monday mornings, it's a new start....
after years of school, college and Uni and now with my own two children being at school, it's impossible not to divide the year up into terms - and that definitely makes time fly!
My son was 6 years old last week and yesterday he lost his first tooth (to be followed possibly by another one today!).....all I can say is that six feels WAY older than five, how can that be?!
My daughter has started her last year at her school before moving to secondary school next September - in the next month we have decisions and choices to make, choosing between two very different schools, and I still have no answer, I'm just not sure.
I'm usually very sure about things so this is odd for me.
Changes, changes, changes....all exciting and good stuff....but big stuff too.
Even after I had left Uni, throughout my 20s I took various courses at night school - languages or other subjects I was interested in - and almost subconsciously when September arrives, I automatically start thinking about new projects, it's that back-to-school mindset I guess.
I am feeling the need for something new and unknown so I have decided that in the next month I will challenge myself to do TEN things that I have never ever done before.
It's not going to be skydiving or anything crazy....
it's going to be activities and things I have always wanted to do but never got round to,
I may take a course and it may be making some permanent changes to my everyday routine.
I think I have half a list already....a mixture of things and things I have never done before,
that's going to be my theme.
I need to mix things up a little.
I need to stop procrastinating on a couple of plans and Just.Do.It.
No time like the present, as they say :)
I will report back on October 13 :)
Off to complete my list.
Happy Tuesday!

well what a month this shall be for you my sweet!
ReplyDeletei am intrigued as this is how i feel each January- the (proper) beginning of a school year for me being from the other hemisphere...

Oooo Simone,
ReplyDeleteI don't envy you , having to choose a senior school for your daughter. All I can say is, wherever they go, if they were going to do well, they will do it, whatever school you choose. I have learnt this and seen it through the experience of our children. Even though that was a while ago now, I think it is still true that, if you have a child who is willing to work hard, they will do well.
Enjoy choosing things to do for yourself as well Simone. It's good to set yourself some challenges .... so says a woman who has been very happy poodling about and loves being busy doing nothing !!!! haha XXXX
Sounds intriguing Simone ~ a new chapter in life maybe?? We do not choose schools over here as the kids automatically go to the one you live closest too so if you have a favorite, you must move! I cannot wait to see what you have in store. xo
ReplyDeleteWonderful post, and one we can all relate to. September is my favorite month for many reasons - the fabulous weather included - but I mostly love that feeling of starting new. It feels like the start of a new year, and I'm always motivated to start projects and resolutions. More so than January even. Looking forward to hearing updates on your list!
ReplyDeleteHow's about
ReplyDelete(1) Learn or perfect your French for your yearly visits to Villefranche so you can chatter with the locals?
or
(2) Ditto your Italian ditto Italy ditto your husband's family?
or
(3) Ditto Spanish because there are more Spanish speakers in the world than the other two put together??
PS If you're already fluent in two of the above then forgive my colossal cheek.
Caroline
Hello! I am so with you - I am full of plans but also am finding that my time is absolutely sapped at the moment. The puppy...hmm well he is taking up alot of it ;-)
ReplyDeleteJust on schools - Boo had her interview this morning for her chosen school = BIG DEAL. She was so chilled and prepared whereas I was a nervous wreck. These kids have alot to teach us and do you know what? Just when you think yu know them and what they are capable of, they surprise you! Lou x
I need to put that last sign to good use....boy o boy was that meant for me!!!! Today, especially. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteI am of the same mindset to change things up a bit myself. My feet feel a bit glued to the floor right now, so I am busy prying them up! haha..I have actually started stepping away from my computer a bit and getting outdoors and enjoying nature a bit more. But I also have a few projects in the works that I am excited about. My daughter is in the application process in the next month or so for college's next year and I am already starting to miss her and wonder what I will do without her on a daily basis. Love, love, love the quotes! Have a nice relaxing evening, sweet friend! I can't wait to hear what you are up to! xxoo :)
ReplyDeleteI'm the same.
ReplyDeleteLast month, I began to learn Spanish. Even though I should wear a cap - adorned with a large 'D'! - to classes, it's important to continually push myself to learn new things and have wonderful, life-affirming experiences.
Looking forward to hearing about your plans!

I love your last quotation as I'm the biggest procrastinator on earth. Going to read the Cote d'Azur post now. Love you SO much....
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of 10 new things and look forward to hearing about them. It is making me think what 10 new things I could do!! Bushbelles xo
ReplyDeleteI love that "back to school" mindset. I think it's because we are conditioned for about 20 years to think like this. It's all really exciting. I can't wait to see what new things make their way on your list xx
ReplyDeleteso exciting/scary that your daughter is in the last year of primary school! i can remember year 6 so clearly..so much fun :)
ReplyDeleteyour upcoming month sounds like its going to be great Simone! I can't wait to get your update and find out what you'll be doing :) i know you will be great xx
Yes, yes, I know!!! Me too!!! I have been away for so long, I feel so heavy and slow and it almost hurts to get back into a London routine. At the same time I don't want to get back to where and how it was, I want something different. I want change, and I JUST have to do it.
ReplyDeleteFunny that. There must be something in the air.
Lots of love,
D
Love, love this post!! Thank you!!!
