I seem to be having my own little French love affair at the moment....
I blame the very handsome Jean Dujardin in "The Artist" for starting it ;)
I'm currently cooking my favourite French Onion soup....
so easy and absolutely delicious....perfect for a snowy London day.
I feel like a proper cook when I make this!!
I finished the fabulous "Paris Was Ours" by Penelope Rowlands at the week-end and absolutely loved it.
32 accounts by a wide variety of writers about their time in Paris - it's such a good read and totally transported me to Paris day after day as I read it.
Funny, nostalgic, evocative....
it's a wonderful study of the reasons why Paris gets under your skin in the way it does and why, for so many, it's a lifelong love affair.
If you love Paris, you must read this.
I'm just about to finish "Blackberry Wine" by Joanne Harris, author of "Chocolat".
Joanne Harris is from Yorkshire, England but writes so beautifully about a particular region of France that you would almost think she is French (her mother is French so this has clearly given her some insight).
Her writing is so description and visual, that you can totally imagine you are living in one of those hidden away villages where not much has changed for a couple of hundred years.
Great characters and books that you can totally lose yourself in.
While I've been spending more time in the kitchen perusing cookery books and practising some new recipes, I've also found that putting a movie on the laptop on the kitchen table while I am cooking is a great way to catch up with my viewing!
Today I've been watching my favourite French film of the last couple of years
A fantastic cast, beautiful setting, wonderful acting, laughter and tears - I love this film.
Marion Cotillard, one of the stars of "Little White Lies"
I will be spending almost the whole of August in the south of France this year....
it's months away I know but I cannot wait.
I am already dreaming of endless sunny days, food, markets, suppers on the beach, time to breathe....
and, of course, my trusty suitcase full of books!

A little French-ness is nice! I designed my guest room with a French theme so I could feel a little French-ness every day. Have fun on your trip!
I love France because it's so easy to get to and we had a house in Cannes for thirty years, but Paris has never been that big a draw for me, I love the laid back South.
Oh some wonderful books to add to my reading list!

Hello gorgeous- I feel like we have shared our summers {albeit in different special spots around Europe} every summer for the last few years...
A suitcase of books, kids, food , wine...I will sooo miss this come August when we are in the depths of winter here in Sydney...
I'm passionate about organising our photos from the last four years, in a way I didn't realise I would be...I guess so much of my hear is full of moments like these books, films, holidays, memories...
Two new books for me- thank you as always- I adore your reading suggestions and still smile each and every time I think of the box of books that arrived on my doorstep last summer after R dad passed away....
