London Life : Diamond Jubilee June 2012

....amazing scenes in London this week-end for Queen Elizabeth 11's Diamond Jubilee....
plenty of rain and sadly, the Duke of Edinburgh missed two days of the celebrations....
a wonderful music concert with Buckingham Palace as the backdrop & a fabulous firework finale....

The Queen looked beautiful as always....
and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge shone all week-end in every outfit that she wore.

My favourite part....the flypast.
A Lancaster flanked by Spitfires and a Hurricane....
followed by the Red Arrows in formation....
....absolutely fantastic....an evocative & emotional sight and sound.

London looked amazing....I may be biased but it is a city that does these events brilliantly.
I felt full of pride....for the Queen, for London and to be British.

  1. Dear Simone,
Well, I think that we watched every last drop of the Jubilee celebrations. I loved every minute of it.....the flotilla ( shame about the weather and those poor singers on the last boat with the Royal Philharmonic....what troopers)the concert ( didn't you just love Madness and the brilliant graphics on the Palace ?) and the Thanksgiving Service at St.Pauls ( no-one can touch us when it comes to pagentry, can they ?).....and, the thousands of people up the Mall always gives me shivers down my spine, all waving their flags.....and the way the police lead everybody down the Mall in such calm and organised order is SO British !!
.......now we've got Queen's, Ascot, Wimbledon and The Olympics to look forward to !! I think that London is the place to be this year......we are certainly in the spotlight.
.....and, didn't London look gorgeous ? With love from one London lover to another !! XXXX

  2. I would have given anything to have been there. Goodness, I should have planned better, I could have visited you and Jacqueline & Catherine couldn't I? And,Christina, who I miss dreadfully. No other place on Earth does celebrations like you guys. I'm hooked on Downton Abbey, as is my daughter too. Long Live the Queen, who looks radiant, doesn't she.

  3. I watched with pride on the tv. You are right, no-one does this kind of celebrate like the Brits. Always love the flypast and this one was spectacular. Sadly the sun didn't shine on the celebrations too much, but so great to see the millions out enjoying and celebrating in true British style. Lovely photographs you found for this.

  4. Fabulous photos of a wonderful weekend.
The weather couldn't have been worse (or could it?) - but I think we showed the world that us Brits know how to have a party.
    Have a lovely week.

We watched an edited ~ very edited down to 2 hr version of the concert last night and I said to Trev ~ this makes me want to go to London even more now! I was and still am so sad that Prince Phillip had to miss the last 2 days of the celebrations ~ I do hope he is out of hospital soon. The Queen looked so so happy ~ it is so good to see her smile so much. We do love our Queen don't we! Love to you sweet girl. xo

  10. You know how envious I am of your wonderful rich history and the fact that it is so a part of your modern life. I didn't see the flyby but my Grandfather worked on Lancasters in WWII- I have a photo of his here in a frame of one that he worked on.
Thanks for sharing these gorgeous photos my friend,
    xx

  11. Great collection of photos Simone! You captured the best of the best! I lived being here for the whole celebration...it was very special to be a part if it, something I will never forget. I look forward to her 70th...I am sure she will still be smiling upon Britain at that time xxx

  12. I've followed the Jubilee via Twitter and Youtube, and the whole thing amazed me (including great Robbie singing Mack the knife). Seeing it from Spain, the adoration you feel for the Queen, your pride to be British... is quite surprising, unthinkable in this country

  14. It was absolutely wonderful wasn't it Simone? I enjoyed every piece of it and like you felt enormously proud to be British...as you say, nobody does it better and I think the rest of the world would probably agree with that too! Have you read Anderw Marr's book on The Queen? I learnt so much about this amazing lady, her strength and dignity are incomparable...if you haven't put it on your reading list ;-)
I love Marsha's comment we could have all met up...how lovely ;-)

  21. My favorite photo, above all others, in the collection you posted is the one of Prince Charles kissing his mom's hand. The smile on her face is priceless. What a touching moment!

  22. Hello! What a fabulous set of images...that one of the three of them waving at the same time is precious. I was so so proud of the celebrations, we do it so well and it was a pleasure to watch, let alone be there. London must be buzzing...can't wait til the Olympics. Love Jacqueline's comment by the way, she is spot on as ever! Lou x
